JAPAN-INDIA INTERNATIONAL LINKAGE DEGREE PROGRAM for Developing Innovators Transforming Advanced Technology to Social Goals
Implementation period:from 2017 to 2021
The ILDP program focused on developing innovators who can apply advanced technologies in three interdisciplinary fields (smart infrastructure development, new energy, and environmental sustainability) and transform them into innovative solutions, usable in our every-day lives. The program was designed to be both thought-provoking and provide participants plenty of opportunities for learning and personal growth while filling in the gaps they may have had in their specialized know-how. The ILDP program contributed to an increase in cross-border student exchange, which then further lead to the promotion of education and research activities among the universities concerned.
Human Resource Development Program that integrates research and social enterprise skills to contribute to sustainable peace, happiness, and development in CLMV countries (PEACE Program)
Implementation period:from 2016 to 2020
The program aimed to develop professionals, who can bring forth prosperous and sustainable development based on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). To this end, we aimed to cultivate competencies that closely embody these concepts and goals in both actual public governance as well as private business. Special attention was paid to individual students’ research capabilities and social entrepreneurship capabilities.
(Research ability is the ability to analyze large amounts of data, scientifically investigate causal relationships, and define key issues. Social entrepreneurship is the ability to launch creative new businesses and create policies based on a thorough investigation of the causal links surrounding the core issues, and to act on one’s findings.)
Core Human Resource Education Program for Contributing to Peacebuilding through Joint Economic Development and the Establishment of Trust in Asia (AIMS Program)
Implementation period:from 2016 to 2020
In this program, Chulalongkorn University and Kasetsart University in Thailand and Bandung Institute of Technology in Indonesia were Hiroshima University’s exchange partners for one semester study abroad at the undergraduate level in four specialized fields: (1) Food Science and Agriculture, (2) Engineering, (3) Economics, and (4) Language and Culture. In addition to providing lectures in English, the exchange program aimed to develop global competencies (on five aspects: language, communication, negotiation, cross-cultural understanding, and leadership) through seminars and research on international issues – all planned and managed by the students themselves while being supported by their host institution.
Finally, participants were offered opportunities for mid- to long-term internships at Japanese companies with business ventures in other parts of Asia, both at the study abroad location and in their home countries after returning from their study abroad. The internships were adopted to further develop students’ skills to include immediately applicable tools for real world situations.
Collaborative education in the fields of peace and environment through the International Network of Universities (INU)
Implementation period:from 2011 to 2015
Set within the framework of the International Network of Universities (INU), an international inter-university consortium, a multifaceted program for interdisciplinary collaborative education (double degree programs, master’s summer schools, and student seminars) was established covering the fields of peace, environment, and global citizenship. This program was designed to strengthen the universities’ international education, research, and cooperative capabilities, as well as to promote internationalization at home. For participating students, the program offered opportunities to grow as future professionals who are aware of their role as global citizens, and who can contribute to the sustainable development of their countries and regions.
