On February 2, 2026, Hiroshima University hosted an evening seminar titled “What is the World Maritime University (WMU)?”, featuring Professor Henning Jessen from the World Maritime University (WMU, Sweden), one of our partner universities under the Inter-University Exchange Project (Japan-Europe). Professor Jessen introduced an overview of WMU as well as its research and educational activities.

　In his lecture, Professor Jessen provided a clear and engaging explanation of WMU, established under the framework of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), covering the university’s educational philosophy, graduate programs (master’s and doctoral), international research initiatives, and efforts to develop human resources in the maritime sector, using concrete examples to illustrate each topic.

　A total of 28 faculty members, staff, and students from Hiroshima University participated. During the networking session after the lecture, participants engaged in active discussions with Professor Jessen.

　Through this seminar, attendees gained a deeper understanding of the World Maritime University, and it provided a valuable opportunity to foster future international collaboration and exchanges.
